The Unique Character of Artisan Stoneware

Handcrafted Stoneware Ceramic Pet Urns

The Amberra Earth collection brings together handcrafted stoneware urns with organic forms, layered mineral finishes, and surfaces that retain the character of the making process. While the Porcelain collection is defined by clean lines and a consistent white finish, Earth explores the richness of natural materials, varied glazes, and subtle differences that develop by hand and in the kiln.

Every piece begins as stoneware clay and is individually shaped, finished, and fired. Rather than aiming for perfect symmetry or identical finishes, each urn is allowed to develop its own character. Small variations in form, colour, and surface are an expected part of the process, making every piece slightly different from the next.

HOW THE EARTH COLLECTION IS MADE

Each Amberra Earth urn begins as raw stoneware clay. After shaping, the clay is slowly dried before being fired once to harden the form and a second time after glazing to permanently fuse the finish into the ceramic.

Although individual models use different techniques and finishes, they all share the same approach: hand-shaped forms, mineral-based glazes, and finishes that develop naturally during firing rather than being manufactured to look perfectly uniform.

The result is a collection of urns with depth, texture and individuality, while maintaining the durability and strength of high-fired stoneware.

TECHNIQUES USED

Hand-Shaped Forms

Every Earth urn is individually shaped by hand rather than produced in a precision mould. Slight variations in curves, rims and surface contours remain visible after firing, giving each piece a softer and more organic appearance.

Some designs are smooth and understated, while others intentionally retain more texture or irregularity. These small differences are part of what gives each urn its own character and reflect the way it was made.

Layered Mineral Finishes

The Earth collection explores the natural richness of ceramic through mineral-inspired glazes in a range of earthy colours, including warm browns, charcoal, slate grey, ivory, bronze and black. Depending on the design, these surfaces may be brushed, layered, poured or shaped by the interaction of glaze and heat during firing.

The result is a depth of colour and texture that feels organic rather than uniform. Subtle transitions, brush marks and variations in tone are part of the character of each handmade piece.

Some models feature expressive layered brushwork, while others have softer gradients or textured, stone-like surfaces.

Metallic Accents

Selected urns within the Earth collection combine ceramic surfaces with metallic accents inspired by bronze, copper or silver. These effects are created through specialised ceramic techniques that become integrated into the surface during firing.

The metallic elements add contrast and depth, from warm bronze tones to reflective silver highlights, while preserving the handcrafted character of the ceramic underneath.

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE FINISHED URN

Handcrafted stoneware: Every urn is individually shaped and finished by hand, resulting in subtle variations that reflect the making process.

Layered natural finishes: Mineral glazes create depth, texture and colour variation that develop during firing rather than being applied as a perfectly uniform coating.

Individual appearance: Differences in firing, glazing and hand-finishing mean that each urn has its own character while remaining faithful to the original design.

Dense, durable ceramic: Each urn is fired at high temperature to produce a dense, low-porosity stoneware body with a reassuring weight and long-lasting durability.

Easy to care for: The ceramic surface is durable and easy to maintain. Simply dust regularly or clean with a soft damp cloth, while avoiding hard impacts that could damage any ceramic object.
